Start at Pico dos Barcelos, one of Funchal’s most iconic viewpoints, and enjoy 360° panoramic views of the city, harbor, and surrounding mountains. Then, ascend to Eira do Serrado at 1,094 m. Take a short, easy walk to the viewpoint for spectacular vistas over the serene Nuns Valley and visit the charming souvenir shop.
Drive through the valley towards Vereda do Urzal, where you’ll admire Pico do Gato from below and see the traditional terraces where locals still work the land. Stop in the village center for an hour to explore, taste delicious chestnut custards, breads, and local liqueurs, and soak in the valley’s unique atmosphere.
