Madeira West Tour: Atlantic Horizons
To stay true to our philosophy of calm, responsible travel, we have updated our West Tour. Fanal is now available only by special request as a customized experience, helping protect the fragile UNESCO Laurissilva Forest.
We start our tour in Fajã da Areia, a very quiet viewpoint with a wide panorama of Madeira’s “Europe’s Hawaii” coastline.
We drive through São Vicente and follow lush, scenic green roads until Seixal. To skip the line, we arrive earlier, giving you around 30 minutes to stroll the black‑sand beach at the perfect time of day.
We continue to Porto Moniz for a flexible break — from a quick swim to a relaxed lunch, anywhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour and 30 minutes. You choose the pace; we adapt.
From here, we cross the island on a beautiful regional road, watching the plants and trees change as we move south. We reach Ponta do Pargo to visit the lighthouse and enjoy the fabulous views over Madeira’s wild western cliffs.
Driving along the southwest coast, we can combine a few short stops for photos or a small walk in Calheta or Madalena do Mar, along the scenic banana route.
We stop in Ponta do Sol to explore its charming historic centre, enjoy a coffee, or simply take in the warm coastal atmosphere.
Near the end of the day, we pause in Ribeira Brava, where you can visit the farmers market, browse local shops, or enjoy the vibrant town centre.
We finish the tour at the viewpoint of Fajã dos Padres — a peaceful place to contemplate the entire coastline we travelled.
